Maintaining sustainable and responsible paper procurement
As a manufacturer of copiers and a supplier of paper products used as office consumables, FUJIFILM Business Innovation Corp. (FUJIFILM BI, formerly Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.*), a subsidiary of FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation, is aware of where ESG risks exist in the supply chain of paper products.
In 2002, FUJIFILM BI became the first company in Japan to sell FSC®-certified copy paper, showing its commitment to a sustainable value chain. By 2004, the company had established its own regulation on paper procurement to ensure the traceability of raw materials and the fair environmental management of paper manufacturers.
In 2012, some requirements on CSR perspectives were added to the regulation. The new criteria include preserving the native environment, safeguarding biodiversity and HCVF (high conservation value forests), protecting the rights of local communities, supplier compliance with national and international laws, and corporate ethics.
FUJIFILM BI also conducts regular surveys and onsite inspections of paper manufacturers. Every year since 2012, the annual review has been reported at the executive meeting to assess ESG risks in the paper supply chains, and to discuss opportunities in the paper business.
FUJIFILM BI is also working to expand its lineup of FSC®-certified copy paper. In 2017, it pledged to support the Vancouver Declaration, which is committed to the SDGs and FSC®-certification. It is only natural for FUJIFILM BI to pursue the sustainability of forest resources and harmony within local communities in all aspects of business.
