Collectively and individually, JBIB members are working steadily to achieve common goals.
JBIB member companies are making various efforts to reduce the impacts of business on biodiversity and transform their business processes to be in harmony with biodiversity.
At JBIB, we have been working together, regularly and continuously; these initiatives are introduced below as “Activities.” Efforts that have been taken individually by each member company to achieve common goals are shown below as “Projects.”
Activities
Ongoing engagement in many matters would be essential to mainstream biodiversity in daily business activities and management. To that end, member companies gather for liaison meetings once a month to share the latest company practices both within and outside JBIB, trends in Japan and abroad, and hold discussions for cooperation in their activities.
These regular liaison meetings also provide valuable opportunities for businesspeople engaged in biodiversity to go beyond the boundaries of their companies and industries to exchange information and communicate with each other. This is where collaboration between companies is born. Because of the pandemic, however, it became difficult to gather in person, so these occasions have been taking the form of online meetings since spring 2020.
Details on regular activities can be found at this page.
Projects
In addition to the abovementioned regular activities, there are programs that member companies conduct within their respective companies in response to calls to achieve specific goals.
The following are the two key initiatives we have been undertaking up to now. Please visit their pages for details.
JBIB Challenge 2020
In 2010, prior to the CBD COP10, we prepared an agenda called “JBIB Challenge 2020” to enable member companies to see how they stand in conserving biodiversity and using resources received from ecosystems in a sustainable way in their daily operations. At JBIB, this is used as an agenda to be achieved by the member companies by 2020, along with the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

Declaration of Support for Zero Deforestation
Of the negative impacts of corporate activities on biodiversity, the impacts of destruction of forests are especially large. In recent years this has come to be viewed as an issue internationally as well, and accordingly, we are seeing an increase in the number of companies declaring that they will not take part in deforestation. At JBIB, we declared in 2018 that we will drive efforts to address this issue by raising awareness among companies in Japan and calling on them not to be a part of deforestation. In addition, we check the progress made by our member companies every year.
