Business for Nature

We’re delighted to work alongside the Japanese Initiative for Business and Biodiversity (JBIB) who have been making significant progress to mainstream biodiversity in the Japanese business community for more than 12 years.
We’re looking ahead to two crucial meetings: the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) where governments must adopt a new transformational Global Biodiversity Framework and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC, COP26), where 200 countries will meet to advance global climate ambition.
At COP15, we hope nations agree to adopt a new Post-2020 Global Framework for Biodiversity with goals, targets and policy direction that help halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. An ambitious, clear and implementable international agreement will ensure the nature agenda is raised to the highest political level.
And we need businesses to raise their voice – indeed more than 1000 companies with combined revenues of US$ 4.7 trillion including companies like Ajinomoto, Google, Hitachi, IKEA and Mahindra Group are urging governments to adopt policies now to reverse nature loss in this decade through Business for Nature’s Call to Action ‘Nature Is Everyone’s Business’ .
It’s heartening to see that 12 JBIB member companies have signed up to this rallying cry. This is the first time so many companies are publicly urging governments to step up in order to accelerate the action needed and if you’re a company, there is still time to show your support and sign up.
Before COVID-19, the need to create more resilient economies and societies was clear, now it is inescapable. It is therefore vital that all businesses seize the moment to ‘build back better’ and take action now to address the global challenges of nature loss, climate change and social inequality. Businesses can raise their voices and make a positive contribution by helping to design and implement the new Global Biodiversity Framework because it will only be successful with meaningful and constructive engagement from the private sector.
As we collectively transition to a nature-positive future, we look forward to working with JBIB as they continue to grow their presence and influence on nature and biodiversity issues both within and beyond the Japanese business community.
Business for Nature is a global coalition that brings together business and conservation organizations and forward-thinking companies. Together, they demonstrate credible business leadership on nature and amplify a powerful business voice calling for governments to adopt policies to reverse nature loss in this decade.
